Settling in...
Initial plans to travel a week after Noirin arrived were abandoned when we realised just how much settling in is required (it took me months!) So on week 1 we greeted and shopped and took okadas - all the necessary stuff that takes up much of the day. It was a lovely relaxing couple of weeks of being entertained by our Irish neighbours, playing cards by candlelight and taking longer okada rides each day!
And then on Thurs we invited some colleagues to taste some 'Irish' food (food without pepe really). It was a crazy day of cleaning the house (every room cos inevitably people start rambling if I dont), going to market (that was the day there was no tomatoes - how do you cook without tomatoes in this country?!?), counting the plates/cutlery/pots and pans (and then back to the market), cooking, cooking, cooking (would love to take the credit but Nor did the bulk of this).
Anyway, there were no disasters - NEPA didnt disappear, water continued to flow, tomatoes turned up in the afternoon. My colleagues were suitably impressed but threatened to carry some pepe in their pockets next timet as they food is a little bland for the Nigerian palet!
And we travel next week...
