Hausa & spuds...

I sit and listen to the Hausa conversation flowing around me. Punctuated by loud guffaws and peppered with english phrases. Snatches repeated from an earlier conversation with the oyibo, me. 'Only Irish potatoes'... 'everyday Irish potatoes'. Once again I had been asked to carry a new friend to my country; once again I had offered my standard replies - 'its very cold' and 'there is no yam or pepe'. The latter always gets more of a reaction.
I think its a wonderful insight into Nigeria that potatoes are considered such an insubstantial meal...
