Training week...

Apart from being sick, last week was great!
We had a training week for junior secondary school students from local schools. 50 kids each day – looking for trivia in the encyclopaedia, trawling through a table of contents like it hid the holy grail, dragging the atlas off one another to find the countries that border Malawi ('for gawd's sake, mind the book'), encountering crosswords and riddles for the first time. The kids were amazing – five foot sponges who will adopt an activity sheet like it could save their lives.
I certainly encountered a few unexpected issues in trying to organise the training - time and timetables just aren’t important to 11-14 year olds or their teachers/administrators. But I loved the training, the enthusiasm, the interest shown by the kids.
The best of weeks…
