Communication difficulties...
Getting to the heart of the matter can be very difficult here sometimes because Nigerians, in general, don’t seem to volunteer information. You need to ask very specific questions to be any the wiser. So you often only know what you are doing one step ahead. On a recent trip to get a bank draft I went to the bank’s customer service desk. The nice lady pointed to the regular queue and said ‘go there’. So I queued for 20 mins and the nice gentleman pointed to the customer service desk and said ‘you’ll need to go there’.
Now it took me forty questions to find out, but what they meant to say was
- join the regular queue and withdraw the money (for the bank draft) from your account
- then go to the customer service desk and complete a bank draft request form
- then return to the regular queue with the form and pay the money you withdrew to the bank for the draft
- then return to the customer service desk and collect the draft
Yeah, so maybe one step at a time is just as well.
